Only as long as the binaries are available. The only time one must retain sources is if you used a physical media to distribute the binaries, and you included that written notice the GPL talks about. If you don't download the sources at the time you download the binaries, I'm not responsible at all. I'm required to make the sources available with the binaries; I am not required to make the sources available if the binaries are not available. However, I can't delete the sources unless I delete the binaries also.
