The S3 Trio family is not the most compatible of graphics cards, and drivers tend to be rather buggy. I'm not sure if there is a bug fix for Allegro, but I don't believe it's Allegro's fault since it uses Mode 13h, ModeX or Vesa 1.x/2.0 for the most part (which are standardised). It could be that you havn't got the latest drivers for your card, so download them or get SciTech Display Doctor. You could always change the GFX_AUTODETECT to GFX_VESA2L or other modes to see if they work, then you can work out which modes cause the problem.
