Are you sure you configured Windows to use the PostScript driver for the printer? The default Windows driver is PCL, not PostScript. If it *is* PostScript, you can print to a file from one of those Windows programs and see what's different in how the output begins. AFAIK, PostScript output from Windows begins with "^D%!" string instead of the usual "%!", for example; maybe that is the reason for the different tray.
