It depends on what do you want to do with that vector; please explain 
that.

You might also consider reading chapter 18 in the DJGPP FAQ list that 
explains some related background and discusses several specific problems 
and their solutions.  The FAQ is available as v2/faq210b.zip from the 
same place you get DJGPP.
