I think your impression is mistaken. Almost all such trouble boils down to a single problem: if you use DJGPP on Windows 9X, you need to set LFN=y in the environment. If you use RHIDE to compile C++ program, there is another small gotcha which is solved by adding a single line to a certain file. That's all. I wouldn't call this ``running into trouble''. Both of these things are well-documented in the various READMEs, btw.
