I wonder if you or anybody else has an answer to this. I have some documents but I'm not sure enough to say if any one of them is the answer. Sure, the facts are there in bash.1, but if you find anything more rudimentary please let me know. But, I could be wrong, are you satisfied with the bash.1 manual as a starter? Ralph
