* G_Window System v1.47 beta by Sean Gilley is a GUI that uses C++ objects for all widgets based on Allegro 2.2, 256 colors with palette converter, builtin gif support, 3d look, screen shots on the web page. A hello world program needs 9 lines. Sources.

I creates a Windows 95 GUI style on top of Allegro (you can get or share routines and sprites).

* DEGUI by Doug Eleveld is a C++ wrapper for the Allegro GUI objects, plus a GUI builder program. It produces a very pretty interface. Now version 1.21 available.

It also redefines the d_xxxx routines to create a better look and can be used just to make what you want. So perhaps you can make your code like an add-on for DEGUI or something similar. Just some ideas.
