My editor also has troubles inserting real tabs, and I made a quick patch to the make sources so that it would accept any whitespace instead of just a tab. I lost the source change I made, I only have the executable now, but I remember the patch was easy. I wonder, though, if this could have any side-effects somehow? I haven't run into trouble so far, but I don't exactly use the advanced features of make. Is there any reason to enforce this real tab?
