Well, personally I would prefer Allegro, since GRX lacks a good documentation which is pretty important to me. Allegro is probably faster too, and includes functions for a lot of other things, like sound, FLI, and stuff like that. If you however are interested in developing a portable program I would recommend JLib, which has support for a lot of diffrent platform. It's probably not as fast as Allegro, and currently lacks support for high/truecolor modes, but it's easy to use, and comes with a good documentation.
