The important thing is that it can also serve as a Quake Viewer. This means that you can use the CLIFF engine to view any Quake level, either of the shareware or of the registered version of Quake!!! For the development of the CLIFF engine the DJGPP compiler was used (excellent compiler). If you want to DOWNLOAD the CLIFF engine or see some SCREENSHOTS go to my page at: http://www.csi.forth.gr/~komod/cliff.html You can contact me by e-mail at: komod AT csd DOT uch DOT gr Please feel free to send any comments/suggestions/complaints to me. Features of the CLIFF 3D-engine ------------------------------- The CLIFF engine can simulate a true 3D environment. This means that you can move and look at any direction. It can be used to walk around 3D worlds with great graphics (Quake levels for example). The CLIFF engine offers a variety of features. Some of them are listed below: - 6 degrees of freedom for the camera - asm-optimized perspective correct texture mapping - MIP-mapping - a collision detection system - an excellent physics system - CLIFF-shell - a shell mechanism (similar to Quake's console) - designed to be played at all VESA 2.0 resolutions - you can use it to walk around Quake levels - high frame rates even at high resolutions - BSP rendering, visibility lists, edge-sorting - scrolling textures - ... (many more) Some cool features that have been almost implemented and will be included in the next version of CLIFF are the following: - real time lighting with the use of lightmaps (any number of light sources allowed) - dynamic lighting - moveable BSP models - moveable z-buffered objects - sound support The next version of CLIFF will become available as soon as i find some free time to finish some details. At this moment i am very busy working on my master. Check the CLIFF page at http://www.csi.forth.gr/~komod/cliff.html at regular intervals to see when the next version of CLIFF will be available. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Komodakis Nikos e-mail: komod AT csd DOT uch DOT gr komod AT csi DOT forth DOT gr University of Crete Foundation for Research Computer Science Department and Technology - Greece Computer Science Intitute. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
