It would be a good aproach to make it more modular. There could also be allegro LT version that would contain only 256 color mode, sound, music, keyboard and timer, because I think that's what most people need for games anyway. A full version could contain everything else, and some stuff could be implemented as add-ons. Like GUI, math and 3d stuff.
