Well, that statement isn't quite correct.  X is available for most (if
not all) versions of UNIX, VMS, and yes even Windows.  It isn't "built"
on any specific OS but rather implements a network-transparent display
interface independent of OS.

Netscape uses Motif, and depending on the vendor that produces it (SGI,
Sun, HP, Digital, Metrolink, etc) you'll see slightly different looks.
For example, SGI's Motif provides rounded/lighted controls very much
like the ones provided by Microsoft.

I think most people agree that the generic Motif look-and-feel isn't
the greatest (nor Xaw, which is the "original" widget toolkit produced
by MIT).  You *can* customize the appearance of things fairly easily
(at least as far as setting up generic color/size/font schemes).
