But then we need some way to lock functions in a compatible (with future
compiler versions) manner. This seems to be the only method.  Maybe the
newer versions will allow for the Allegro marcos (END_OF_FUNCTION,
LOCK_FUNCTION - defined in a different way) to still work and hence no code
changes.
