This depends hardly on what you want to do with it:

If you want to do mostly anything on you computer
with one program ==> get emacs

if you need a tool for only developing programs
without knowing so much about all the needed steps
to build a program and the needed commandline syntax
===> get rhide


And the best solution: Get both and try it for your own!!
