From: Aylott Mark To: DGJPP Newsgroup Subject: DPMI Host limited to 64MB physical memory on Compaq PC ?? Date: Fri, 30 May 97 14:51:00 PDT Message-ID: <338F4C05@smtpgate.villingen> Encoding: 52 TEXT Precedence: bulk Does anyone have any reasons why no matter what I do in the way of machine config I cannot get more than 64MBytes allocatable physical memory when the machine I am using has 128MBytes physical memory ?? The application I have is to generate a digital video transport stream, and at the output speed required virtual memory access time is too long. I therefore disable the swap file and load the transport stream data into physical memory. I have tried a variety of HIMEM.SYS drivers and have found that the /EISA argument is necessary otherwise the program sees only 16MB. I have read the DJGPP FAQ's and have found nothing to suggest why the 64MB limit exists. Here's my setup -------------------- Software : gcc2721b GNU GCC 2.7.2.1 for DJGPP V2 rhide12b RHIDE Version 1.2 (binaries) csdpmi3b CWSDPMI binary distribution (release 3) O.S : Dos 6.20 - exe runs from DOS not Windows Memory Drivers : HIMEM.SYS /EISA No EMM386 loaded Hardware : Compaq Deskpro 4000 Ser.No. 8651bbc64000 This may be a Compaq specific problem, but I have no other makes of machines around here to prove this. Any ideas ?? Thanks Mark ___________________________________________________________________ Mark AYLOTT Digital Test Lab.
