To: djgpp AT delorie DOT com Subject: binary postings Message-ID: <19970515.180636.7119.1.fwec@juno.com> From: fwec AT juno DOT com (Mark T Logan) Date: Thu, 15 May 1997 18:07:15 EDT Precedence: bulk In a recent posting, someone suggested that the mini-faq should have a section called "NEWBIES-- read before posting," which would set down guidelines for the subject line. On a related note, I think that somewhere in the mini-faq, there should be something surrounded with bright yellow and red flashing lights which says something to the effect of - "DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, POST BINARIES TO THIS NEWSGROUP / MAILING LIST. THEY ARE VERY VERY VERY BAD." If necessary, several multi-lingual translations could be added. It is annoying to wait 5 minutes for your mail to download, and then find out that most of it was binary. I also say on behalf of Mr. Delorie, whose mail server must send a copy of each message to hundreds upon thousands upon millions (well maybe not that many) of mailing list subscribers. 'Nuf said. This post has wasted too much bandwidth already. || fwec AT juno DOT com || || This message will self destruct in 10 seconds. || ||
