I can >compile gcc (no c++) with -O3 in about 15 minutes on my P90. > my experiences are, the compilation speed heavily depends on how you 'tuned' your system: example: I'm currently using two PC's, on both is DJGPP installed with the same setup. -) machine #1: DOS 5.0, QEMM, 8 MB RAM, 33 MHz 486 -) machine #2: DOS 6.2, QEMM, 8 MB RAM, 33 MHz 386+387 On both machines smartdrive, both machines have a 1 MB RAMdrive. The GCCTMP env. variable is set to the RAMDRIVE, so every intermediate GCC file goes to drive E: (btw. F:) The 386 harddisk, is defragmented, the 486 isn't. On both machines, smartdrive is enabled with 1.5 MB cache, both HD have approx. the same transfer and access rate. -----> The 386/387 couple is approx. 1.4 times *FASTER* during compilation. my conclusio: It REALLY depends on how the system setup is. I had really good succes when I tried to speed up the compilation cycle via defragmenting my disk, and making the smartdrive cache as big as to keep 'gcc', 'cc1' and 'as' together in memory. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Matthias Burian Institut fuer Analytische Chemie Universitaet Wien a8411gac AT helios DOT edvz DOT univie DOT ac DOT at Waehringerstrasse 38 a8411gac AT awiuni11 DOT edvz DOT univie DOT ac DOT at 1090 Wien AUSTRIA ---------------------------------------------------------------------
