I wouldn't recommend the built-in VESA driver, because it is an old version, and has a bad reputation of not working on many VESA-compatible cards. Instead, get the file grx103m1.zip and use the VESADRV.VDR included there. Why was the original poster woried about PCI-based cards? Are they any different (register-wise) from their ISA/VLB counterparts with the same chipsets?
