This is used for debugging the compiler. The file names for most of the dumps are made by appending a word to the source file name (e.g. @file{FOO.C.RTL} or @file{FOO.C.JUMP}). Here are the possible letters for use in @var{letters}, and their meanings: Those filenames have 2 dots each and so are illegal on PC's!!! (You mean invalid.) True. One solution would be to hack the GCC source to add a dash instead of a dot.
