The sad part is, I typed it in as is, compiled it, ran it, debugged
it, DISASSEMBLED it, couldn't figure out why the `for' loop was being
removed, tried without -O, still didn't work, but the assembler
mentioned "0x9ffff" and I said to myself, "that doesn't look right..."
