Subject: GRX -good? From: WU DAVID S To: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu Date: Sat, 2 Jul 1994 11:25:04 -0400 I was looking at the GRX library (I haven't actually used GCC yet.. but I plan to.) and it looks like a very good library. I have a few questions, however. Is it fast? It has a lot of portability, but does it compromise speed? I noticed that they have a few X modes (360x480, 320x240) do these work okay? I know that X modes require a lot of X specific grafics functions (because of the whole plane business) and if not done properly, things can get really slow. Does GRX support all VESA super VGA stuff? This does not really have to do with GRX, but anyway: How fast is VESA run super VGA modes? Is it linearly proportional to the amount of pixels (compared to VGA mode 13h 320x200)? How does this compare to X modes? I noticed some VGA 32k color stuff. Whats with this? I didn't think VGA could really do this. How slow is it? Can X modes do it? How about bitmaps? does GRX deal with them, or do you just make a GC for each bitmap? How about planer mode X bitmaps? And one more Q, has anyone written a 3D vector graphics library for use with the GRX funcitons?
