You must *ALWAYS* preinitialize dpmi's register structure will zeros:

	write_char_gen(...)
	{
	  _go32_dpmi_registers r;
	  memset(&r, 0, sizeof(r));

Some fields MUST be initialized, like the STACK.  I don't know for
sure if this is the cause of your problem, but it could be the cause
of other problems...
