Date: Sat, 9 Apr 94 18:09:03 JST From: Stephen Turnbull To: thinman AT netcom DOT com Cc: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu Subject: Where is DJGPP? Some of this is irrelevant to you (it's a forward of a message I wrote earlier to someone who couldn't find the right files on the mirror), but it should cover everything you wanted to know and then some.... I just checked ftp://oak.oakland.edu/pub/msdos/djgpp, and found -rw-r--r-- 1 w8sdz oak 565066 Dec 7 12:08 bnu22bn.zip -rw-r--r-- 1 w8sdz oak 78022 Dec 7 12:08 bnu22dc.zip -rw-r--r-- 1 w8sdz oak 1179439 Dec 7 12:10 bnu22sr1.zip -rw-r--r-- 1 w8sdz oak 491988 Dec 7 12:10 bnu22sr2.zip The first file is the current binary for bin-util. The next is docs, the last two are sources. (These naming conventions are consistent for all packages.) I think you also should get all dj111m?.zip, since the maintenance scheme is to overwrite all change files. You have to do this in order, since not all maintenance releases change the same files, but GO32 (for one) is changed in every one. You had me worried for a minute: although OAK is technically a mirror of SIMTEL, it is effectively SIMTEL since SIMTEL itself is no longer accessible by internet (or anything else) for security reasons, and OAK is the primary mirror. There are several other djgpp mirrors in North America. To whit: ftp://wuarchive.wustl.edu/pub/systems/ibmpc/msdos/djgpp [128.252.135.4] ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com ftp://omnigate.clarkson.edu/pub/msdos/djgpp ftp://qdeck.com/pub/packages/djgpp ftp://ftp.math.niu.com/pub/.../djgpp.stuff (sorry about the ellipsis) WUARCHIVE and GATEKEEPER are full SIMTEL mirrors. They should be considered almost as reliable as OAK. I believe GATEKEEPER is West Coast (I presume bc.ca is British Columbia). OMNIGATE used to be the primary distribution site for DJGPP, but its network access is extremely congested. DJ was asked if OMNIGATE was still primary, but I forget what he said. QDECK and MATH.NIU are not very up-to-date. There may be a mirror at McGill. Materials under development (GDB, far pointers, v2.0 gamma ;-) are often uploaded to ftp://ftp.cygnus.com In Europe, GARBO (garbo.uwasa.fi, I think) probably has a DJGPP mirror. Asian mirrors all are pretty outdated in my experience. GARBO is the primary site for GNU Make 3.70 (it's in an odd place, /pub/msdos/programming/gmake370.zip, or something like that, neither gnuish nor djgpp). All of the above support the standard anonymous ftp login protocol; many of them record your activity. Some will refuse your login if it doesn't correctly correspond to the FTP connection. If this still doesn't solve your problem, (a) repost to the list or (b) check the archives at ftp://sun.soe.clarkson.edu/pub/msdos/djgpp*. You should be able to find discussion of similar problems in the most recent archive (but not djgpp-announce, that only has announcements of new versions, ports of major programs, etc). If you have to go back farther than that, the old archive is 8MB+ :-( Go out for dinner while downloading.... +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Stephen Turnbull | | University of Tsukuba, Institute of Socio-Economic Planning | | Tennodai 1-chome 1--1, Tsukuba, Ibaraki 305 JAPAN | | Phone: +81 (298) 53-5091 Fax: +81 (298) 55-3849 | | Email: turnbull AT shako DOT sk DOT tsukuba DOT ac DOT jp | | | | Founder and CEO, Skinny Boy Associates | | Mechanism Design and Social Engineering | | REAL solutions to REAL problems of REAL people in REAL time!
