Thanks to everyone who sent helpful suggestions. Professor Dewar at NYU
correctly diagnosed the problem as one similar to one that occurred in
OS/2.  The same fix worked and it has been sent to dj AT ctron DOT com and hopefully
it will appear in the next maintenance release.
