Date: Fri, 1 Apr 1994 19:37:06 -0800 (PST) From: GLEN HEIN Subject: GCC wiped files off my harddrive! To: ListServ for DJGPP I was trying to compile a program using GCC tomight. It was a rather lengthy program. The source file was about 325,000 bytes and it used several #include files. GGC started compiling it and it only gave 1 warning. And that was just about PI being redefined. After about 20 minutes GCC stopped and it gave an error about running out of virtual memory. I have 4Mb of RAM and I had 50Mb free on my hard drive. I went to reboot my sytem, and then I was going to make more space on the hard drive. I restarted the system because I wanted to use a different setting in my multi-config file. Both the config.sys and autoexec.bat files were gone. Other small files in the root directory were missing. Luckily nothing important, except the config.sys and autoexec.bat of course! What could have caused this? How can I still compile my programm without destroying my system? This is my system: i486SX25 4Mb RAM 255 Mb HD GCC 2.5.7 m5 Thanks, Glen Hein ghein AT nevada DOT edu
