Idea #1: aren't you drawing the box with an unused color which happens 
to be mapped to white at first? After a couple of GrAllocColor() calls
this cell may be overwritten.

Idea #2: mixing GRX 1.02 and 1.03 include-s (i.e. using objects compiled
with them) and libraries may also cause this. This is because
the definition of the GrXOR, GrOR, etc.. bits has changed.
