To: DJGPP List Subject: wow. is it _always_ this slow? Reply-To: pgf AT Cayman DOT COM Date: Thu, 03 Feb 94 13:08:27 EST From: Paul Fox is there likely something wrong with my config? i have an HP OmniBook 300 (4Meg of RAM (20Mhz AMD386SLX); not everyone's idea of a big powerful development machine, but my DX2/66 runs linux, so here i am. i just did a compile (of a single C file) and a link (of perhaps 45 .o files), using djgpp111 (with the 2.5.4 compiler, i believe). i've applied the first maintenance release, but not the second, since from the contents it didn't look like it applied to me. (i use C only, no C++.) anyway, my compile and link took 23 minutes! i have a ram disk configured. i use himem.sys to manage extended memory. there is no expanded memory manager. the application that i link comes to almost 1.2 meg. (i have -g turned on.) should i be surprised at this speed? (i also use Watcom 9.0 sometimes. it's _way_ faster.) paul --------------------- paul fox, pgf AT cayman DOT com (cayman systems inc. woburn, ma) home: pgf AT foxharp DOT boston DOT ma DOT us (arlington, ma)
