Ouch.  Newer GCCs are memory hungry enough to make them unusable on
old machines.  I'd prefer if we kept at least one gcc 2.x release 
available.

I keep archives of all of them on clio, and there are no known regressions
in r5 - so removing r3 is fine.  You can remove r4 also if you want.  If
someone really wants it I'd like to know why ...
