I think doing this is a lot of work (because assumptions about all features being available are implicitly spread across lots of library code), so it is unrealistic to expect that kind of effort from a project that couldn't even gather enough resources for a new libc release in 10 years. I'm sure patches to do this will be welcome (although personally, I doubt that the gains will justify the effort).
