It looks confusing, but if you try -print-file-name on some filename that
doesn't exist, then it echoes it back at you:

    bash-2.04$ gcc -print-file-name=i_am_pretty_sure_this_doesnt_exist
    i_am_pretty_sure_this_doesnt_exist
