Emacs isn't so bad. If you get a copy of a Emacs reference card, then that'll tell you all you need to do basic editing with Emacs. I used to use vim for everything, but when I started my current job most people used Emacs, so I made the switch and haven't looked back since. The reference card taught me all I needed to know. I used the reference card from the back of an O'Reilly "Learning Emacs" book (which I've hardly read). Maybe there's a free one at http://www.refcards.com/ or http://www.refcards.org/ . I use Eli's scripts for sending e-mail from Emacs and they are pretty easy to set up. I'm sure he can send you instructions for feedmail+blat, but if he can't, then I can try to dig them up.
