I believe LFN support for plain DOS is critical, and long overdue. I have only two more patches to apply to djasm.y before the stock DJGPP djasm can be used to build Bill Currie's M$-DOG LFN TSR (http://www.taniwha.org/lfn.zip). I'm hoping this will encourage others to work with Bill's LFN TSR (it's useable as is, and IMHO it won't take much to move it to a stable beta stage).
