Probably 2.7.2. However, namespaces are supported starting
from EGCS 1.1. 

I think you should seriously consider looking into libstdc++ V3.
It might help - it already tries to solve those C headers problems.
And most sane programs using namespaces will have to use libstdc++ V3
anyway.
