This looks okay, thanks.

Did you try to build all the major *utils (Fileutils, Textutils, etc.)
and Bash with this change and after that rebuild some arbitrary
package (e.g., Binutils) with tools that use this modified putpath.c?
If you did, and it worked, I'll apply the patch.
