However, I'm still of the opinion that the sh-utils code in question is wrong. However, I'm not an expert in the shell script language. I concentrate on making it work and not on how it works, so I can't be completely certain in my opinion. As for the other example, I have no opinion. Perhaps you should ask gnu.bash.bug (or mailing list equivalent) for an expert opinion from the Bash maintainer rather than asking for my feeble one. Mark
