As far as I could see, exceptn.S uses the DS alias only for the timer interrupt (i.e., timers and profiling), but not for Ctrl-C (the keyboard). FWIW, Emacs is built with Unixy sbrk, and it never crashed on me, although Ctrl-C is a very popular key there, even though it doesn't generate SIGINT.
