Almost (good ideas--yours--never need to be rethought or replaced ;-). The change is that the latest port supports numbered backups (if the user thus requested) even on 8+3 filesystems. For example: foo.c -> foo.c1~ foo.cc -> foo.c2~ (because foo.c1~ already exists above!) Note: I didn't release this port yet (it's Patch 2.5.3), but I will do it soon, after I retrofit the changes into patch 2.5.4. Since Patch didn't see an official release for for the last 2 1/2 years, it seems justified to release a beta, as it has several important improvements.
