What case, exactly, do you want to fix?

I agree that we could detect the cases of "\/" and assume it's some bug.  
We certainly cannot remove extra backslashes in the case of "\\" (it 
might be a real UNC).  And the case of "//" is already handled.

What about "\\/" or "/\/\"?

Or am putting on my troll disguise (again)? ;-)
