Weak symbols are harder because it was already in when the sources were imported to sourceware's cvs. This means I can't generate a patch to make it easy to backport. Win32 ports use a similiar method to .gnu.linkonce for template support, so perhaps just it will work out. I'll have to test this to make sure. I'll let you know in a few days.
