That's certainly possible, but it seems to duplicate George's work. Perhaps I should clarify: I have no problem with the macro formats as they stand. All that bothers me is the prospect of having to mention a very large number of compilers individually. What I think I will do, when I have a chance (it could be a couple days) is to try the new macro scheme in real life, and actually do some sample functions, like you suggest. (Though I don't see what's so complex about `chdir', other than the fact that the disk stuff is meaningless for Unix...) Or did I completely misunderstand you?? Nate Eldredge eldredge AT ap DOT net
