Of course, but there also things called 'DOS' that don't have even a slight similarity with what we know as DOS. For an example, I think some subsystem of the Amiga OS is usually called 'DOS'. And of course, even if not all DOSes of today come directly from Redmond, it's still M$ that defines the standards in this area. In a certain sense, this DOS is exactly what M$ decides to call DOS. Not more, not less. Even the other producers of DOSes still (have to) stick to M$'s original API, which is what actually makes out DOS.
