I agree strongly with DJ on this one - changing our numeric definitions to workaround poorly designed/buggy code just covers up the problem. Fix the application. If it's that poorly designed, there are probably lots of other things which are OS dependent and need to be addressed. All the world is NOT a single flavor of unix.
