Bash on SimTel.NET is a working, stable port dated April 19 1997, I'm using that same release since it was uploaded for building GNU packages with no problems at all. The only known bug in that release is with emulating $SHLVL, which I never saw used in any Makefile or configure script (I didn't even upgrade to the beta release that corrected this).
