IMHO, '-s' removes so much functionality from the executable that it's not worth it to specify as default. Admittedly, I _always_ specify '-g' when I compile unless I intend to produce a stripped program, but I consider myself to be an advanced user. This argument could be used in reverse - the readme file does explicitly specify that you must use the '-g' switch to gain full debugging capability.
