Message-Id: <199706261224.IAA09054@delorie.com> Date: Thu, 26 Jun 1997 09:00:41 +0300 (IDT) From: Eli Zaretskii To: djgpp-announce AT delorie DOT com Subject: ANNOUNCE: Patch 2.4 uploaded MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Precedence: bulk Precedence: bulk This is to announce that the DJGPP port of GNU Patch 2.4 was uploaded to SimTel.NET ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2gnu/pat24b.zip ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2gnu/pat24s.zip It should also be available from your nearest mirror site. Patch takes a difference file produced by `diff' and applies it to original files to produce patched versions. It is mostly used to patch sources, but beginning with this release also supports patching binary files (this works on MS-DOS also). The most important DOS-related feature in this release (other than binary patch support) is full support for long filenames on Windows 9x: you can now have numbered backups and other filename-related niceties of `patch' on LFN platforms. If you are familiar with previous versions of `patch', please read the file NEWS in the distribution before using this release, since a lot of changes has been introduced and the default behavior will probably surprise you (if not shock you) if you fail to read the docs. Note that the docs of `patch' which come with Diffutils 2.7.1 is now obsolete; read the `patch.1' man page in this distribution instead (I strongly recommend to read it before you begin using `patch'). Beginning with this release, the official `patch' distribution supports DJGPP right out of the box.
