If you are right that repartitioning was the cause, that would presumably be due to corruption of some needed file. It could also be that a whole file got lost somewhere it can be recovered, but that's not something I recommend for anybody, it's painful. And just because it starts, that doesn't guarantee other files that only get used later are uncorrupted.
