DOS is closer to a bootloader than a modern OS w/X11 or Win32/Windows API support. It will take significant time to get to a graphical OS that supports numerical packages from DOS. If you still feel like going down this route, look at Nano-X/Microwindows with its X11 & Win32 APIs and DOS targets. There were also Mesa, OpenGL & GRX libraries that support DOS but folks haven't worked on those in a very long time.
