IIRC, Stinger checks the most recent 5000 threats, and Sysclean checks everything in existence except recent threats. You must download patterns for it separately. Spybot Search & Destroy should work just fine for malware. AVG Free should hopefully still be available for XP too. For Win 7/8, the current AVG Free has a root kit scanner too. So, you shouldn't need a separate root kit scan util. I generally use AVG and Spybot, unless AVG won't work, i.e., no longer works for Win 98/SE. I run the others when there are problems or where AVG won't work anymore. All of these are free. Rod Pemberton
