For new djgpp users I suggest to compile a bootable CD containing all the files that were suggested in this thread. Then one can boot this CD and use djgpp right away without downloading lots of ZIP archives and configuring the DOS installation for using djgpp.

If you plug in a flash disk before booting, the DOS on the CD will see that as a hard disk and you can save your program development on this flash disk. Of cause if there are FAT partitions on the PC DOS will allow to use these as well.

To demonstrate my FLTK for DOS applications I made such a bootable CD and called it XFDOS. One could make a similar CD in text mode with the focus on djgpp.
