Not that I understand exactly how it all works but is the compiler level up to date with the linux compiler. As for "'and there just aren't that many people using > a DOS-like environment any more." We'll have to give them a reason too. :) Actually I'm looking into making a gui for it that is xwindows-ish. I don't know not sure. Everyone is saying it can't be done or that there is no point.
